Our
mission

Our Mission

We created Fenn Foundation to support the charities who supported Fenn and us during the most difficult time of our lives. We aim to provide these charities with the resources they need to continue offering life-changing care and support to other children like Fenn.

Read more below about how these charities supported Fenn and our family.

Friends of PICU

Fenn received expert medical care that simply would not have been possible without the training and equipment provided by Friends of PICU. They gave us a lasting gift by taking us to the beach in their ambulance on his second-to-last day on Earth.

Ronald Mcdonald House Charities

Mum and Dad were able to stay close to Fenn whilst he underwent treatment over 100 miles from home thanks to the on-campus accommodation provided by Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Sophie's Legacy

On days where we couldn't take ourselves away from Fenn's bedside, we were able to rely on Sophie's Snackbox and frozen meals that were on offer to parents of children staying in PICU and other wards in the hospital.

Families of Ocean Ward

Fenn only spent one day on Ocean Ward itself but they were still able to provide Mum with pumping equipment for many weeks so she could continue to collect breast milk for him. We know some children are there for a lot longer and the charity offers so much support to other families of heart babies.

Southampton Hospitals Charity

Funding projects that go beyond what NHS budgets can cover, this charity has no doubt had an impact on the care Fenn received during his 5 months in Southampton Children's Hospital. We utilised their newly refurbished mortuary viewing rooms which made visiting Fenn after he passed much less scary.

SSNAP Oxford

During Fenn's first week of life SSNAP helped to make his first, and last, Christmas with us very special. SSNAP volunteers also knitted Fenn's first newborn hat that the midwife put on his head moments after he was born.

G4 S.U.N. Ward

Where Fenn lived his best life.

Fenn spent five weeks of his life on G4 during a time when he no longer needed the intensive care environment. It was the best period of his little life. It brought us a sense of relative normality, as he had a stable period uninterrupted by procedures. We were able to hold him every day, sit him up and show him around the ward, and we even put him in his bouncer a few times, which was a strange and new experience for him, one he definitely had mixed feelings about.

During his time on G4, we felt more like a family; doing normal family things and interacting with him as our baby, rather than as a very sick patient in intensive care. We were even able to spend the night by his bedside on a dedicated parent’s camp bed, which meant one of Mum or Dad was always with him.

Our ambition is to raise funds for these charities, and G4 ward, every year so Fenn’s legacy lives on through our work. You can help us achieve this goal by donating via our JustGiving page here.
